লকডাউনে সব ধরণের জনসমাগম নিষিদ্ধ হলেও সিলেটে বি’ক্ষোভ মিছিল ও সমাবেশ করেছে পরিবহন শ্রমিকরা। অবিলম্বে স্বাস্থ্যবিধি মেনে গণপরিবহন চলাচলের নির্দেশ ও দশ টাকা কেজি দরের ভিজিএফের চাল শ্রমিকদের মধ্যে বিতরণের দাবিতে তারা এ কর্মসূচি পালন করেন।
বৃহস্পতিবার সকাল ১১টায় সিলেট জে’লা বাস-মিনিবাস-কোচ-মাইক্রোবাস শ্রমিক ইউনিয়নের উদ্যোগে কদমতলীস্থ কেন্দ্রীয় বাস টার্মিনাল থেকে বি’ক্ষোভ মিছিল বের করা হয়। মিছিলটি হু’মায়ূন রশিদ চত্বর ও কিনব্রিজ এলাকা ঘুরে ফের টার্মিনালে গিয়ে শেষ হয়। পরে টার্মিনালে অনুষ্ঠিত হয় সমাবেশ।
সমাবেশে বক্তারা বলেন, বিমান চলাচল শুরু হয়েছে। প্রাইভেট গাড়ি চলছে। লকডাউনের অজুহাতে শুধুমাত্র গণপরিবহন বন্ধ করে রাখা হয়েছে। এতে দেশের লাখ লাখ শ্রমিক রমজান মাসে না খেয়ে আছে। এই অমানবিক অবস্থা থেকে শ্রমিকদের মুক্তি দিতে অবিলম্বে স্বাস্থ্যবিধি মেনে গণপরিবহন চালুর নির্দেশ দিতে হবে।
বক্তারা বলেন, গণপরিবহন শ্রমিকরা মানবেতর জীবনযাপন করলেও তাদেরকে ভিজিএফ’র আওতায় নেয়া হচ্ছে না। তাই শ্রমিকদের ভিজিএফ’র আওতায় নিয়ে ১০ টাকা কেজি দরে তাদেরকে চাল দিতে হবে।
সমাবেশে বক্তব্য রাখেন পরিবহন শ্রমিক নেতা ময়নুল ইস’লাম, আবু সরকার, মোহাম্ম’দ জাকারিয়া, আলী আকবর রাজন প্রমুখ।
Transport workers have staged protests and rallies in Sylhet even though all kinds of public gatherings are banned in the lockdown. They carried out the program demanding immediate transfer of public transport in accordance with the health rules and distribution of VGF rice at the rate of Tk 10 per kg to the workers.
At 11 a.m. on Thursday, a protest procession was taken out from the central bus terminal in Kadamtali at the initiative of the Sylhet District Bus-Minibus-Coach-Microbus Workers Union. The procession toured the Humayun Rashid Square and Kinbridge area and ended at the terminal. Later the assembly was held at the terminal.
Speakers at the rally said aviation has started. Private car is running. Only public transport has been shut down on the pretext of lockdown. As a result, millions of workers in the country have not eaten during the month of Ramadan. In order to free the workers from this inhuman condition, it is necessary to immediately order the introduction of public transport in compliance with the health rules.
The speakers said that even though the public transport workers are living inhumane lives, they are not being covered under VGF. So the workers have to pay Tk 10 per kg under VGF.
Transport workers leaders Moinul Islam, Abu Sarkar, Mohammad Zakaria, Ali Akbar Rajan and others addressed the rally.
